Motto: I always have to think through the environment of my clients and what would be most appropriate to wear.
“It’s been an incredible journey with rewarding experiences. I consider myself a journalist at heart with a mission to be a steward of client stories and brands,” said Laura Archbold about her career as a Rochester based communications specialist.
After working in television news for five years, Archbold headed into the worlds of agency, nonprofit and corporate communication, eventually moving here with her husband 12 years ago. She founded Encore Public Relations, and then, with Rochester photographer Shawn Fagan, launched Red Couch Stories, a communications company.
Keeping her joyous and busy, Archbold says, are husband John, who works at Mayo Clinic for the Graduate School of Medical Education; daughter Emma, 15 and a sophomore at Lourdes High School; and son Jack, 12 and a sixth grader at Holy Spirit.
Please give us a glimpse of your style.
Classic with an emphasis on the Goldilocks rule clothing shouldn’t be too tight or too loose but fit just right. I (also) opt for well made clothes rather than taking a chance on more trendy fashion. The wisdom of time gives realization that trends and fashion isn’t a one size fits all proposition.
How does that translate to your professional role?
My profession calls for a lot of flexibility in attire. If I’m meeting with a client in the professional services arena or working on crisis or issue communication, I can be most often found wearing a more conservative suit. On the other hand, I have clients who are in the retail/fashion, entertainment or hospitality industries, and I’m able to dress a bit more fun.
Last month, I was in Central America with a client for a film series, and it felt like it was 120 degrees, and we were working outside. In addition to wearing tons of sunscreen, I wore linen pants that were not crisp at the end of the day! a light cotton denim shirt, super comfy but stylish UGG denim slip on shoes and a tailored wide brimmed hat. I always have to think through the environment of my clients and what would be most appropriate to wear.

On the weekends, I can be found in a pair of jeans, a comfy pullover or Oxford style button down shirt, leather boots or tennis shoes.
What should every well dressed woman have in her wardrobe?
The classic and simple black dress. A pair of black trousers that fit perfectly, a black hand bag, a great pair of black patent leather heels and a fitted blazer.
Do you have a priceless sentimental piece?
I have a vintage gold Great Gatsby 1920s era choker necklace that is from my great grandmother. I only wear it for special occasions.
Are scents part of your style picture?
A perfect scent can set the tone for the day and truly lift your spirits. I enjoy a wide range of scents that include floral, fruity and woody scents to more earthy, ancient and rustic. My other favorites include; Shalimar by Guerlain, Romance by Ralph Lauren and DKNY by Donna Karan.
Anything surprising in your wardrobe?
I have a wool green sweater that is 15 years old. I love this sweater because I have hazel eyes and, when I wear it, my eyes take on nearly the same shade! It has truly lasted the test of time and still looks great.
Favorite and not so favorite colors to wear?
Aside from black, my overall favorite color is red and anything that has deep, rich colors and tones. In general, I try and avoid pastels.
Key is finding clothing that flatters you and fits well, that makes you feel good about yourself. Whatever you choose should make you feel beautiful. I truly think the most important element to fashion is the importance of working on inner beauty first and how that radiates out, no matter what you are wearing on the outside.
